Two weeks ago The WFC Group employees were on their way to New Orleans for our annual company summit. As we employ a full-time remote workforce, the event is organized to thank our employees for their hard work, and to help connect them to their peers to continue to grow their working relationships. See what we were up to at the summit here.
As you can see, our time was filled with working sessions to build on our consultant advisory board and presentations, including announcing our new educational training program. Fun events were mixed in as well, including group dinners (one on a historic Paddlewheeler!), a scavenger hunt team bonding activity and happy hours. But my favorite activity by far was when we volunteered with a local organization, Youth Rebuilding New Orleans (YRNO).
YRNO is a non-profit rebuilding organization with an educational focus, with an important mission is to engage youth in the betterment of the New Orleans area. YRNO purchases blighted homes in flood damaged neighborhoods, and hires local opportunity youth to be trained in the construction industry, utilizes volunteers to renovate the homes, and sells those affordable homes to local teachers. Volunteers help keep costs down and help homeowners in need with critical repairs.
Our team was excited to help fix up a few homes currently being renovated on the same block, all of which were severely blighted and damaged as a result of Hurricane Katrina. We worked with trained supervisors to help get the homes live-in ready, and helped with tasks like exterior painting, demolition, framing, hanging drywall and landscaping.
It was such a meaningful day – being able to meet the hardworking team at YRNO and see how dedicated they are to the cause, and to be able to contribute (even in a small way) to helping rebuild New Orleans. I am proud to say that we were also able to provide a financial donation to the organization to help further contribute to the worthy cause. We thank YRNO for hosting us and can’t wait to see the houses once they are complete!
We’ve logged another successful company summit in the books - we’ve checked off New Orleans, Charleston and Puerto Rico – where will our team head next year? The options are endless!
